<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lighting device which realizes uniform illumination even with a small number of light emitting bodies, and a display device which uses the lighting device for a backlight assembly. <P>SOLUTION: The lighting device comprises: an incident face 911, to which light comes; a rear face 915 which faces the incident face 911; an exit face 930, of which the light goes out; a light guiding board 910 having both sides orthogonal to the exit face 930 and a first and second sloped surfaces 912 which are formed by cutting the corners of the board 910 with a specified angle to the incident face 911, where the incident face 911 and the sides are adjacent to each other; and a light source part having first and second peripheral light emitting bodies 920a, 920b which are located toward the first and second sloped surfaces 912 respectively.
