An internal container contains a living plant (2) in artificial compost. An upper part comprises chemical adsorbents, a lower part is a porous material; below this is a water reservoir. A frame holds a thermally-adhered adsorbent tissue contacting the water. The reservoir has a water level indicator and filling opening. Ventilation holes are provided. A double-walled construction is adopted. The arrangement is fan-ventilated, the motor speed being variable. A time switch stops it automatically, e.g. for natural biological regeneration of roots and the system at night. The upper artificial compost comprises active carbon and zeolites. An ultraviolet light eliminates microorganisms and chemicals in the air supplied. An analytic sensor is included for pollutants; it controls the motor in accordance with external air pollution. Further ideas incorporated, include highly porous crystals and incorporation of air filtration to retain dust, allergens, pollen, smoke, bacterial and viruses.
