PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing method with which an excellent binary image is obtained from a multilevel image by generating a dither matrix having stable development characteristics and excellent frequency characteristics. SOLUTION: In the image processing method for performing binarizing processing to generate the binary image from the multilevel image by pseudo half tone processing using the dither matrix, the threshold of the dither matrix is determined based upon the status of a concerned grating in which a concerned dot at each gradation level is included while using a source dither matrix divided into arbitrary gratings and a destination dither matrix, and binarizing processing is performed by using the dither matrix in which the threshold is determined.
