PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tension providing device capable of providing a thread pulled out of a thread supply body mounted on a fiber machine, for example, a weaving machine and a creel with desired tension and facilitating tension adjustment work without giving damage to the pulled out thread. SOLUTION: This tension providing device 1 has a spherical body 10 and a receiving tool 11 for receiving the spherical body 10 rotatably to give tension by making the thread 4 pass through between the spherical body 10 and the receiving tool 11. A contact pressure adjusting means 12 for adjusting contact pressure for the thread 4 of the spherical body 10 and the receiving tool 11 is provided in the spherical body 10 or the receiving tool 11.
