<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for illumination and a light irradiation apparatus which irradiates the human eyeball with light in consideration of the variation of a pupil diameter. <P>SOLUTION: In the method for illuminating the human eyeball, illumination with which the vicinity of the human eyeball is irradiated is set to be L1 (lx) and an irradiation time with light is set to be T1 (h). Then, with respect to a plurality of persons, pupil diameters corresponding to respective illumination are measured. When the power coefficient of a characteristic curve which is the reduction function of the pupil diameter to the illumination is set to be (a), the vicinity of the human eyeball is irradiated with illumination L2 (lx) meeting a following formula for an irradiation time T2 (h).
