PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic imaging apparatus capable of storing taken images in an unchangeable state. SOLUTION: A shutter key 9a is depressed to reference a header of a flash memory 8a to determine whether a corresponding erasable/non-erasable information WE is '0', i.e., erasable (overwritable). If the erasable/non-erasable information WE is '0', image data are once stored in a DRAM 6, then compressed by a compressor/expander 7 and stored in the flash memory 8a with the corresponding erasable/non-erasable information WE set to '1', not erasable. If the corresponding erasable/non-erasable information WE is '1', a message is displayed on an LCD 16 for indicating that the image data are not writable, without rewriting the image data.
