PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for executing the sampling of backup in a backup medium without providing any backup time during a system operation. SOLUTION: A program for copying an input and output request to an external storage device and a converting program having the identifier of a backup medium and an instruction conversion table are set in a central arithmetic processing unit, and the copied input/output request is converted into an input/ output to the backup medium by the conversion program so that the input/ output can be executed. Therefore, it is possible to simultaneously execute the input/output to the external storage device and the copy to the backup medium. Thus, it is possible to simultaneously execute the input/output of the external storage device and the sampling of backup during the system operation. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
