A socket is pushed onto an end of one of the plastic pipes and a wave-form heating element embedded in a plastic strip is wound at least once around the pipe ends. A temperature sensor is then placed in the region of each (1) and the socket pipe pushed over the pipe connecting area and shrunk onto (1). Current supplied to the heating wires and welds the ends of the socket to the plastic pipes.
