PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrochromic device which facilitates full color display, has excellent memory characteristic and by which response speed, color developing efficiency and repetitive durability are greatly improved. SOLUTION: In the electrochromic device, a pair of transparent electrodes on at least one surface of which a semiconductor nano porous layer is formed are arranged so that the semiconductor nano porous layers are disposed to face each other, an electrolyte layer is held therebetween and the electrolyte contains at least one kind of electrochromic dyestuffs, color developing or color disappearance of which is reversibly caused by at least either among electrochemical oxidation and reduction. Otherwise the electrochromic dyestuff is deposited on the semiconductor nano porous layer. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
