PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an autofocus system which can perform always exact focusing by arranging a pair of imaging devices A and B for detecting a focus state in front and rear equidistant positions with respect to a position conjugate with an imaging plane of an imaging device for videos and installing a pair of imaging devices C and D for detecting the focus state in positions where a pair of the imaging devices A and B for detecting the focus state are held in-between. SOLUTION: A pair of the imaging devices A and B for detecting the focus state are arranged in the front and rear equidistant positions with respect to the position conjugate with the focal plane P of the imaging device for videos and a pair of the imaging devices C and D for detecting the focus state are arranged in the positions where a pair of imaging devices A and B for detecting the focus state are held in-between. The focus is controlled in accordance with the evaluation values obtained from the respective imaging devices A, B, C, and D for detecting the focus state, by which the detection of the focus state in a wider range is made possible and the exact focusing is made possible even in the case of a large out-of-focus amount.
