An arrangement, especially a strip cutting unit, for longitudinally cutting materials e.g. sheet metal, plastics, comprises a pair of roller blades (8,9) located on upper drive shaft (2) and parallel lower drive shaft (3). The roller blades can be moved to the desired cutting position by moving the drive shafts. A control or positioning unit has a drive and positioning adjustment (17) with which the blades can be moved into the desired work or rest position. The blades have hydro expansion members (6) and the adjustment unit has a pneumatic cylinder which allows the blades to be moved.
