An anti-piracy method, system and play-back device are disclosed. The anti-piracy system comprises, video representation signature apparatus (110) for computing a forbidden signature (130) of a forbidden video representation (120), communication apparatus for communicating the forbidden signature (130) to a playing device (160); and a playing device (160) adapted to receive and play back a recorded video representation (170). The playing device (160) comprises reception apparatus for receiving the forbidden signature (130) communicated by the communication apparatus, recorded video representation signature apparatus (110) for computing a signature (185) of the recorded video representation (170); and playback control apparatus (200) operative to prevent playback of the recorded video representation (170) if the computed signature (185) of the recorded video representation (170) matches the forbidden signature (130) communicated to the playing device (160).
