PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide several methods that record the thumbnail pictures of still pictures onto a recording medium by a digital video recorder as menu items. SOLUTION: The present invention relates to the method of recording the thumbnail pictures for the still pictures onto a rewritable recording medium and comprises: a step of recording the thumbnail picture associated with the still picture recorded on the recording medium, the menu item or a mark in one management file that manages the thumbnail pictures as a group; and a step of recording link information to link the recorded thumbnail picture with the associated still picture, menu item, or mark. Through the thumbnail picture linked with the still pictures, marks, and/or menu items, a user is able to find easily a desired still picture recording position. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
