PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a convenient image reader in which excessive processing such as expansion/reduction processing to a read image after image reading can be omitted. SOLUTION: By changing the setting information of the operating statuses of an optical reading part in accordance with first image data relating to an original displayed on a display part (steps S1-S5), desired second image data are obtained (step S6). Thus, by changing the setting information (such as a resolution, for example) of the operating statuses of the optical reading part to a desired value in accordance with the first image data, the second image data can be obtained with a desired status (such as the resolution, for example). Therefore, excessive processing such as expansion/reduction processing to the read image after image reading can be omitted, and the convenient image reader can be provided. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
