PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic device which effectively uses illumination light from a lighting device and does not lower display quality of a liquid crystal display device. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device is provided with at least a polarizing plate 25 and displays a picture by controlling a polarization state of first linearly polarized light incident via the polarizing plate 25 pixel by pixel. A periodic structure is formed on a light-emitting surface or on a surface facing the light-emitting surface of a light transmission body of the lighting device 21. An axis of polarization of a second linearly polarized light, out of light emitted from the light-emitting surface of the light transmission body 23, along an orientation of lines formed by the periodic structure and the axis of polarization of the first linearly polarized light are made to nearly coincide with each other.
