PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for vapor-phase catalytic oxidation, with which a hot spot in a catalytic layer is controlled, propylene or isobutylene is oxidized with molecular oxygen, a catalyst life is improved and (meth)acrolein or (meth) acrylic acid is efficiently produced by a fixed bed multitubular reactor, a catalyst is packed into the inside of each reaction tube of the fixed bed multitubular reactor and the oxidation is carried out while supplying reaction raw material gas to the reactor. SOLUTION: Two or more catalytic layers having different activities are laid in a laminar state in the reaction direction in each reaction tube of the fixed bed multitubular reactor, a catalytic layer nearest to a reaction raw material gas inlet is provided with a catalytic layer having activity higher than that of an adjacent next catalytic layer.
