PURPOSE: A method for controlling a channel occupation ratio in a wireless packet data transmission system is provided to secure QoS(Quality of Service) by broadcasting a channel occupation state to each MS(Mobile Station) of the wireless data packet data system and enhancing the channel occupation ratio with respect to voice and image traffics. CONSTITUTION: A traffic characteristic of data transmitted and received between a base station(10) and each MS is monitored. The monitored traffic characteristic is compared with a previously stored traffic characteristic, and a traffic type is judged according as the monitored traffic characteristic is identical to the previously stored traffic characteristic. If the judged traffic type is a voice or image traffic, a channel occupation ratio of the corresponding MS is enhanced.
