The invention relates to a method for demolishing a building with at least two structural layers, comprising of: preparing one of the structural layers of the building, and causing collapse thereof, wherein the preparation comprises of: placing at least one pulling or pushing element at at least one bearing wall in a chosen structural layer at a chosen height, with so many structural layers thereabove that the weight of the structural layers lying above suffices to cause the building to collapse at least almost completely when the bearing wall in the chosen structural layer falls away; placing at least one pulling or pushing means to be selectively energized for the purpose of driving the pulling or pushing element; and wherein causing collapse comprises of: energizing the pulling or pushing means.
