PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic electroluminescent element excellent in luminous efficiency and emitting light with high intensity and to obtain a new organic hydrocarbon compound for the same. SOLUTION: This invention comprises the organic electroluminescent element comprising at least one layer which contains at least one compound expressed by formula (1), between a pair of electrodes and the compound expressed by formula (1). (In formula (1), Ar is a (substituted) anthryl group, Z<SB>1</SB>, Z<SB>2</SB>and Z<SB>3</SB>are each H, a halogen atom, a linear, branched or cyclic alkyl group, a linear, branched or cyclic alkoxy group, a (substituted) aryl group or a (substituted) aralkyl group).
