PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an emergency lighting device and a guide light device capable of enhancing the darkness characteristics of a discharge lamp using a simple configuration. SOLUTION: The arrangement according to the invention is composed of a voltage lowering circuit 13 to output a first and a second DC voltage which are low, a battery 14 to be charged so that a DC voltage V3 approximately equal to the second DC voltage V2 higher than the first V1 is output, an inverter circuit 16 to supply a high frequency voltage to a cold cathode fluorescent lamp 18, and a control means 17 to make a control so that the DC voltage V3 from the battery 14 is supplied for a certain time at all times when the cold cathode fluorescent lamp 18 is started for re-lighting, and thereby the darkness characteristics can be enhanced easily without changing the circuitry of the inverter circuit 16, etc., to a great extent.
