PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a distortion compensation amplifier adopting the pre- distortion system for compensating distortion caused in an amplifier at a pre- stage of the amplifier when amplifying a signal of transmission object by the amplifier, where the power consumption is reduced. SOLUTION: A signal level detection means 6 detects a level of a signal amplified by an amplifier 4 and amplifier bias control means 15, 16, 17 control a bias of the amplifier 4 so as to reduce the power consumed by the amplifier 4 by assuring that the level of distortion caused by the amplifier 4 is lower while satisfying a prescribed distortion level condition when a signal level detected by the signal level detection means 6 is low.
