A sandglass having a rigid structure, and its using method, in which entire sand encapsulated in a container can be moved instantaneously and readily to one sand receiving section to bring about a state capable of measuring the time while facilitating design and manufacture and increasing the degree of freedom in design. The sandglass comprises a first sand receiving section (11), a second sand receiving section (12), a constricted section (6) provided between them and having a hole for passing sand, and a bypass section (2) for coupling the first sand receiving section (11) and the second sand receiving section (12) and having an opening diameter larger than that of the passing hole.
