PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain porous particles which may be a substitute for viscose- derived regenerated cellulose porous particles conventionally used in the fields of such as antibacterial agents, aromatic agents, adsorbents such as deodorants, immobilizing carriers of bioreactors, or culture soils for indoor gardening because there is not problem of the odor of residual sulfur because of the unnecessariness for using highly toxic carbon disulfide during its production. SOLUTION: The porous particles is made from a low-substitution-degree cellulose ether in which the molar degree of substitution with alkyl groups and/or hydroxyalkyl groups is 0.05-1.0.
