PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for efficiently producing a fluorine-containing lactic acid derivative represented by formula (3) CFX<SP>1</SP>X<SP>2</SP>CR<SP>2</SP>(OH)COOR<SP>1</SP>(3) useful as perfume, a medicine, an agrochemical or a chemical. SOLUTION: A compound represented by formula (1) CFX<SP>1</SP>X<SP>2</SP>COCOOR<SP>1</SP>(1) is reacted with a compound represented by formula (2) R<SP>2</SP>MgY (2) (X<SP>1</SP>and X<SP>2</SP>are each independently a hydrogen atom or a halogen atom; R<SP>1</SP>is a hydrogen atom or a monofunctional organic group; R<SP>2</SP>is a monofunctional organic group containing a carbon atom at the bond end; Y is a halogen atom except a fluorine atom) and then with water and/or an active hydrogen-containing compound.
