PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily detect filling height of various containers by excluding disadvantages of a conventional technique. SOLUTION: A method for measuring filling height of a medium in the container comprises the steps of (A) forming a predetermined magnetic field in the container, (B) exciting a longitudinal vibration at a cantilever type sensor member having a magnetic distortive material in the container, (C) measuring an attenuation of a resonance frequency or the longitudinal vibration of the member based on a periodically changing magnetization of the member in the predetermined magnetic field, and (D) obtaining the filling height from the attenuation of the resonance frequency or the longitudinal vibration.
