PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for updating software in a television receiver while providing instruction contents of a video form or other two-way contents.

SOLUTION: The method for updating the computer software in the television receiver comprises the steps of: receiving an analog television signal generated from a received medium, the television signal including a data signal representing the computer software; extracting the data signal from the analog television signal; storing the extracted data signal into a memory; checking the extracted data using a data value generated from the extracted data signal to determine if the extracted data signal is correct; the updating the computer software in the television receiver if the extracted data are determined to be correct.
