PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tension detection method and a tension detection device capable of accurately detecting a tension value given to a web to be conveyed by small number of tension detectors so as to provide a tension controller by use of them. SOLUTION: A value detected by the tension detectors 4a, 4b having smaller number than that of a bearing 10 is computed with data stored in advance by a tension compensation means 6 for compensation to output it as a tension value.
