A stator (2) of a rotary electric machine such as an alternator for use in an automobile vehicle is composed of a cylindrical stator core (32) and a stator winding (31) held in the stator core. The stator winding is formed by electrically connecting plural U-shaped conductor segments (33) inserted into slots (35) of the stator core. Pairs of segment ends (331d', 332d; 331e', 332e) to be electrically connected are aligned along two or more coaxial circumferences and correctly positioned by individually restricting each pair of segment ends.
