METHOD FOR PROGRESSIVELY COMPRESSING THREE-DIMENSIONAL MESH IMAGE

PURPOSE: A method for progressively compressing a three-dimensional mesh image is provided to efficiently progressive-compress a three-dimensional image composed of triangular mesh. CONSTITUTION: A rule of restricting vertexes constructing a triangle is applied to select a candidate of split vertex to reduce the size of a candidate set. Connectivity information of the vertexes forming the triangle is coded using a cosine index predictor that utilizes position information of the vertexes forming the triangle. The position information of the vertexes constructing the triangle is coded using a two-stage position information predictor(42).
