PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily manufacture a 2-(5-methyl-2-aryl-4-oxazolyl)acetic acid derivative at a low cost. SOLUTION: The objective compound is manufactured by reacting an N- arylcarbonylaspartic acid with acetic anhydride, reacting the resultant N- arylcarbonylaspartic anhydride with acetic anhydride in the presence of a base to give at least one compound selected from the group consisting of lactone compounds represented by formula (3), acetylazlactone compounds represented by formula (4), and diacetylazlactone compounds represented by formula (5), treating the above at least one compound with an acidic compound, and esterifying the resultant 2-(5-methyl-2-aryl-4-oxazolyl)acetic acid.
