PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cross belt type sorter capable of accurately detecting the presence of a load with low-cost constitution even in the case of a thin article and regardless of the color of the article. SOLUTION: A belt conveyor piece 20 is provided with at least one projecting part 23 which always appears on a placing face 21a on the surface of a conveyor belt 21. The height HP of the projecting part 23 is not less than the height of detection light from the placing face 21a, and width WP in a first direction D1 is less than the scanning pitch of the detection light.
