PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface treating method for a casting mold for obtaining a casting mold of excellent quality by preventing the collapse of a sand grain surface corresponding to the shape of a casting mold and reducing the difference in the solidification of molten metal between thick and thin parts. SOLUTION: Diatomaceous earth as it is or softened by adding water is applied on the surface of the casting mold corresponding to the shape of a cast product obtained by the casting mold using casting sand 3 or on the surface of a core to fill a recess in the surface or the diatomaceous earth dissolved in water is sprayed on these surfaces.
