PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording medium containing ferromagnetic metallic powder having a good carrier to noise ratio and excellent weatherability in high-density recording. SOLUTION: A particle volume is≥800 to <3,000 nm<SP>3</SP>; the ratio of the volume of a metallic section to the particle volume is 5 to 45%; the thickness of a magnetic layer is 0.020 to 0.18μm; the coercive force of the magnetic layer is≥127.3 kA/m, by which the magnetic recording medium having small magnetic clusters and the good carrier to noise ratio is obtained.
