Thermoplastic composition for making light-diffusing shaped articles comprises a transparent (meth)acrylic (co)polymer and light-diffusing particles comprising hollow glass beads and optionally (in)organic particles. The light-diffusing particles have an average size of 0.5-200 mum, have a refractive index that differs from that of the copolymer by at least +/-0.05 and are present in an amount of 5-1000 ppm by weight. Independent claims are also included for: (1) a light-diffusing shaped article made from the above composition by extrusion molding, injection molding, compression molding or casting; (2) a light-diffusing panel comprising a light-diffusing layer formed from the above composition on one or both sides of a transparent (meth)acrylic (co)polymer support; (3) a backlighting unit comprising a panel as above and one or more light sources mounted in a body.
