Profiles and molded parts consist of a material having comparable fireproof properties to gypsum but with improved mechanical properties. An Independent claim is also included for a process for the production of the profiles and molded parts by casting or extruding. Preferred Features: The material is a mixture of mineral fillers and silicate binders. The mineral fillers consist of amorphous, particulate and/or fibrous fillers containing aluminum oxide and silicon dioxide, present in an amount of 20-40 wt.%. The material further contains 15-25 wt.% fireproofing fillers, preferably aluminum hydroxide, magnesium hydroxide, calcium carbonate, gypsum, ettringite, vermiculite and/or perlite. The silicate binder is water glass in an amount of 45-55 wt.%.
