<p>An anchoring device (10) for a pipe coupling comprises an annular channel (11) of generally U-shaped cross-section. The channel has a web portion (13) with flanges (14) and (15) projecting radially inwardly for its circumferential edges. A frusto-conical gripping ring (16) is located in the channel (11) with its outer edge (17) inside the web portion (13) adjacent one of the flanges (14) and its inner edge (18) adjacent the other flange (15) and projecting inwardly beyond the said other flange. The annular channel forms an incomplete ring and is compressible circumferentially. The anchoring device is fitted inside a clamping device (40), which fits around a pipe coupling. The clamping device (40) has tensioning means (50) which tighten the clamping device around the pipe, compressing the annular channel (11) and causing the inner edge (18) of the frusto-conical gripping ring (16) to engage the outer surface of the pipe and thus grip the pipe.</p> |
