<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composite oxide having a high reduction activity at a low temperature region of ≤300°C even after use at 1,000°C, and to provide a method of manufacturing the same. <P>SOLUTION: The method of manufacturing composite oxide comprises as follows. A coprecipitate is formed by adding a precipitant into a solution containing a cerium salt and a zirconium salt, and is separated, washed and dried, thereafter the coprecipitate is heated and thermally decomposed to form a composite oxide. A mixture obtained by mixing a 3rd ingredient with the composite oxide is heated under an oxidizing atmosphere, or a coprecipitate is formed by adding a precipitant into a solution containing the cerium salt, the zirconium salt and the 3rd ingredient, and is separated, washed and dried. Thereafter, the coprecipitate is heated under an inactive or nonoxidizing atmosphere and thermally decomposed to form the compound oxide, then heated under the oxidizing atmosphere. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO |
