APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR CORRECTING FORWARD ERROR

PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for correcting a forward error are provided to perform a forward error correction function regardless of transmission rates by sensing automatically the transmission rates of signals having the different forward error correction transmission rates. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for correcting a forward error includes a low pass filter(200), an AC power measurement portion(210), an algebraic amplification portion(220), a digital signal processing portion(230), a clock generation portion(150), and a forward error correction portion(120). The low pass filter is used for outputting only a low frequency element of a received signal. The AC power measurement portion converts an energy value of an output signal of the low pass filter to a DC voltage value. The algebraic amplification portion performs an algebraic conversion process for the DC voltage value. The digital signal processing portion outputs a control signal for generating a clock according to a transmission rate. The clock generation portion generates the clock according to the control signal. The forward error correction portion performs a forward error correction process for the received signal.
