MAGNETIC RECORDING MEDIUM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording medium which can effectively decrease drop-outs in magnetic recording by minimizing the formation of projections on the surface of a magnetic layer even if fisheyes exist on a nonmagnetic support and which is advantageous for a magnetic recording and reproducing system using an MR head. SOLUTION: The magnetic recording medium has the magnetic layer containing ferromagnetic powder and a binder or has a nonmagnetic layer containing nonmagnetic powder and a binder and the magnetic layer containing the ferromagnetic powder and the binder in this order on at least one surface on the nonmagnetic support. The magnetic recording medium has an easily adhesive layer and a smoothing layer of a thickness 0.3 to 3.0μm containing at least a copolymerized polyamide resin consisting of at least nylon 6/nylon 66 in this order between the nonmagnetic support and the magnetic layer or the nonmagnetic layer and the maximum height of the projections existing on the surface of the smoothing layer is≤100 nm.
