PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve an e-mail system which performs operations which are suitable for respective terminals even when the plurality of terminals are different in ability or usage purpose. SOLUTION: The plurality of terminals are adopted as a master terminal 2 and a slave terminal 3 and a server device 1 transfers an e-mail to the terminals. The e-mail transfer part 111a of the server device 1 transfers the e-mail only to the master terminal 2 in the case of a master terminal mode, and transfers the e-mail only to the slave terminal 3 after copying in the case of a slave terminal mode. The server mail control part 113 of the server device 1 erases mails in the server device 1 and changes the attributes in response to a server mail control request from the slave terminal 3. At least one of the master and slave terminal 2 and 3 includes a mode change request part for requesting the change of a present operation mode of the server device 1. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
