A lighting device (LCD1) comprises an optical waveguide (3), a box body (5, 6) covering at least a pair of sides and lower surface (3f) of the optical waveguide to define a columnar light source unit receiving space (103) along the lateral surface (3a) of one side, a reflecting sheet (4) disposed between the lower surface of the optical waveguide and the bottom surface of the box body with one end (4a) projecting into the light source unit receiving space, a light source unit (L) inserted in the light source unit receiving space and having a light source (1), reflector (2) and light source holding member (7), the light source being in the form of a bar disposed along the lateral surface (3a) of the optical waveguide, the reflector (2) being in the form of a plate covering the lateral surface (3a) of the optical waveguide such that the light source is positioned inside with one end positioned below one end (4a) of the reflecting sheet, the light source holding member being disposed in the reflector to hold the opposite ends of the light source, wherein the lighting device (UT1) has a structure (A) for preventing or confirming the intrusion of one end (2a) of the reflector into between the optical waveguide and the reflecting sheet when the light source unit is to be inserted into a light source unit insertion space.
