PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a precipitation-hardening stainless steel with excellent machinability by lowering solution treatment temperature to reduce hardness and an amount of residual austenite to improve the machinability of a precipitation-hardening stainless steel, which is a hard-cutting material, while retaining its strength, toughness and corrosion resistance. SOLUTION: The precipitation-hardening stainless steel with excellent machinability comprises≤0.07 mass% C,≤1.00 mass% Si,≤1.00 mass% Mn, 3.00-6.50 mass% Ni, 15.00-17.00 mass% Cr, 0.10-2.00 mass% Mo, >2.50 to≤4.00 mass% Cu,≤0.10 mass% N, at least one of 0.05-0.40 mass% Nb, 0.05-0.30 mass% Ti, 0.05-0.30 mass% V and 0.05-0.60 mass% W, and the balance being Fe and unavoidable impurities, wherein an amount of residual austenite at a solution treated state is≤10 mass%.
