PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a laser medium composed of a crystal added with a laser active ion in a prescribed concentration like an Nd: GdVO<SB>4</SB>crystal added with neodymium in the high concentration of≤15% in the ratio of the number of atoms, and to provide a production method therefor. SOLUTION: In the production method for the laser medium to be excited by exciting light to perform laser oscillation, the laser medium composed of the crystal added with the laser active ion in the prescribed concentration is produced by a floating zone method.
