PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive cast article in which the satisfactory joining of an aluminum alloy and a ferrous sintered compact is secured by a simple method, and to provide the production method therefor. SOLUTION: In the method of producing the cast article, raw material powder essentially consisting of iron is compressed to mold a green compact, and after that, the green compact is sintered in a nitrogen-containing atmospheric gas to produce a sintered compact 2. The sintered compact 2 is cast into a casting 1 consisting of an aluminum alloy. In this case, the content of nitrogen in the sintered compact 2 is controlled to≤0.02%, preferably to≤0.015% (150 ppm). Further, on the sintering of the sintered compact 2, its temperature is reduced at a cooling rate of 0.3 to 0.8°C/sec. In the reaction layer formed on the joined face between the casting 1 and the sintered compact 2, the influence of nitrogen is reduced, and the effective area ratio thereof can be improved.
