PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a deterging solvent and a safe and economical method for deterging electric equipment including PCBs to deterge safely at a low cost and perform elimination of the PCBs. SOLUTION: When electric equipment including PCBs is deterged with a deterging solvent to remove or exclude PCBs from it, a mineral oil mixture from straight-chain hydrocarbons originating from the petroleum fraction having an ignition point of≥130°C and aromatic hydrocarbons or a mineral oil including≤100 ppm of PCBs is used as a deterging solvent. In the process for deterging electric equipment, the mineral oil mixture is continuously or several times injected into a plurality of electric equipment to elute the PCBs and extract them from the equipment. In this case, the deterging mineral oil is injected into an apparatus, then sucked out of the apparatus, while the concentration of the PCB is still low, and injected into another apparatus including a higher concentration of PCB and then drained out. These procedures are repeated in order whereby the electric machinery and apparatus can be deterged. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
