<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To maintain adequate cleaning performance by ensuring steady contact of a cleaning blade with an intermediate transfer body over a long period of time. <P>SOLUTION: A toner image formed on a photoreceptor drum is primarily transferred to an intermediate transfer belt 5a and then secondarily transferred to a recording material. A shaft 21 is rotated in a direction of the arrow B to bring the edge 23a of the cleaning blade 23 of a cleaning device 8 into contact with the surface of the intermediate transfer belt 5a, thereby scraping residual toner on the intermediate transfer belt. The thus scraped toner can be loosened by a toner loosening member 22. Therefore, even in the case where substantially spherical toner is used, frictional force between the intermediate transfer belt 5a and the edge 23a can be reduced while an appropriate amount of toner is held on the edge 23a. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO</p> |
