AN AGENT FOR THE INHIBITION AND CONTROL OF PLANT VIRUSES

An agent for the inhibition and control of plant viruses comprises 0.02-2.0wt % of ribavirin, 0.5-15.0wt % of copper sulfate, 1.0-25.0wt % of zinc sulfate, and water as solvent. The preferred composition comprises 0.08-0.12wt % of ribavirin, 1.2-1.3wt % of copper sulfate, 2.0-3.0wt % of zinc sulfate, and water as solvent. During pilot period, the agent is tested at more than twenty demonstration plots on plants such as tobaccos, fruit trees, vegetables, and so on. The results show that the product can effectively control various plant virosis caused by cucumber mosaic virus (CMV) and tobacco mosaic virus (TMV), with the controlling rate of 80 %, and has no toxic side effects. Therefore the agent which has systemic and transmissive activity is available to inhibit and control plant viruses.
