The invention relates to a domestic electric oven (1) for cooking, comprising a housing (2) defined by two lateral faces (4a, 4b), one top face (4c), one base face (4e) and a rear face (4d), principal heating means of the radiant type, essentially emitting infrared radiation and arranged in the housing (2). The oven (1) has a cover (16) surrounding a large part of the housing (2) at the level of the lateral faces (4a, 4b) and the top face (4c), the front face of the oven is provided with a door and a control panel, characterised in that the oven (1) has means limiting the heating of the cover (16) of the oven, amongst which are a sealing by division of the space separating the top (4c) of the housing (2) from the upper part (18c) of the cover (16), a reflector (20), an absence of ventilation openings in the cover (16) and a metallic strip (28) essentially arranged at the level of the door and connected to the cover (16) by an insulating bead (30).
