<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for making a groove for cutting on a mother glass substrate capable of improving the yield ratio in dividing the mother glass substrate into multiple substrates. <P>SOLUTION: In order to divide the mother glass substrate 13 into multiple substrates, a groove for cutting is made with a cutter 14 on the mother glass substrate 13. Dummy members 23 are placed in parallel respectively in contact with the two sides across the mother glass substrate 13 in the moving direction of the cutter 14 (Y direction) The cutter is moved across the contacting parts of the mother glass substrate 13 with the dummy members 23 and pressed thereon.
