PURPOSE:To readily obtain a carbon/carbon composite material excellent in abrasion characteristics, oxidation resistance and mechanical characteristics in a short time. CONSTITUTION:A sheet consisting of fibers randomly oriented two-dimensionally by defibrillating short fiber-like carbon fiber bundles consisting of plural single- fibers is prepared and this sheet is impregnated with a resin or pitch, laminated, formed and baked to afford a baked body. In this baked body, >=90% of the baked body has <=20mum silver porosity pore radii and the average radius is <=10mum and the porosity is 25-65%. The baked body is subjected to compacting treatment by thermally decomposed carbon to carry out compacting treatment for reducing porosity by 5-30%, and then, the treated material is subjected to compacting treatment with a resin and/or pitch to provide the objective composite material having <=20vol% final porosity. |
